Although I never made it to the NHL like I had dreamed of as a little kid, I am thankful to have had the opportunity to play hockey for so many years.  I met numerous people throughout my hockey quest that have had a tremendous impact on my life.  I also learned countless lessons that have proven invaluable well beyond my playing days.

Having the opportunity to reflect, I’ve learned that playing hockey isn’t about who wins or loses or who has the most points – I can promise you that I can’t remember who lead my peewee team in scoring or how many games we won.  Hockey is about the experiences we share, the lessons we learn and the lasting relationships we form throughout our quest.  That’s what your son or daughter will remember when their playing days are over.

I’m forever grateful for my parents allowing me to play hockey and the personal and financial sacrifices that came with it.  I’ll always remember that they supported my dream and truly believed in me.  My parents never pushed me to do anything I didn’t want to do, they simply supported my efforts and provided the best means to help me accomplish my goals.  Their efforts allowed me to form a passion for the game that is both pure and enduring.

Although I never achieved my dream of playing in the NHL, I’m grateful for the relationships I formed and the important life lessons I learned throughout my hockey quest.
