2013 Adult Hockey Classic
February 8, 2013
The 2013 Pittsburgh Penguins Adult Hockey Classic will take place this weekend: February 7 – 11, 2013. The tournament, which is in its second year, will feature 29 adult hockey teams competing in at least 4 divisions for a chance to raise the Labbatt Barrel. The tournament will be comprised of over 350 adult hockey players aged 25 and older.
More and more adults have taken up hockey recreationally and many hockey players that grew up playing have continued to do so beyond their youth, high school and/or college careers. Building off the success of last years inaugural event, it’s no surprise that the 2013 Adult Hockey Classic will include more teams than last year.

Round robin games will take place at the Ice Castle Arena and RMU Island Sports Center with the championship game taking place at the CONSOL Energy Center.
Quest Hockey has entered a team for this years Adult Hockey Classic and will play in the Emperor Division. The team includes Quest Hockey co-founders Brandon Rubeo and Matt Schwartz and a number of their former teammates and long-time hockey friends from the likes of Slippery Rock, Duquense, Bowling Green, Arizona State and Penn State.
Last year, Paolicelli & Associates defeated Labatt Blue in the Emperor Division championship at CONSOL Energy Center by a score of 3-1 (empty netter) to win the Labatt Barrel. This years tournament is sure to be competitive as Labatt Blue looks to exact revenge.

UPDATE:
Congratulations to Labatt Blue for defeating Quest Hockey last night by a score of 3-2 (shootout) to take home the Emperor Division Championship!
After being down 2-0 going into the third period, Quest Hockey battled back to tie it up with 3 minutes left in the game. The teams competed hard till the end of regulation, which ended in a 2-2 tie. Under tournament rules there would be no overtime and the game would need to be decided by a shootout.
After both teams went 1 for 5 in the shootout, the game went to sudden death shootout rounds. In the first sudden death round the Labatt Blue goalie Tim Heneroty made a great save to put his team in the drivers seat. Jim Fuhs was up for Labatt who made no mistake and scored the shootout game winner with a nice little move to his backhand and a five hole finish. With that, Labatt was victorious and hoisted the Labatt Barrel on CONSOL Energy Center Ice!
We’d like to thank Mark Shuttleworth, Sue Schademan and everyone else behind the scenes who worked tirelessly to make the 2013 Adult Hockey Classic such a success. We’re thankful for the opportunity to reunite with old friends, suite up in the locker room with the boys and to compete and get after it!
