OHL Goalie Allows 13 Goals, Named 1st Star in Emergency Appearance
March 5, 2012
If you have never attempted to play goalie in your life, you will never fully appreciate the skill it takes to play the position. Some people fantasize about an NHL team having no goalie and the team finding them in the stands and signing them to a contract and asking them to suit up. I cannot think of a more terrifying prospect. Yes, it sounds unbelievable. And I always am happy to hear the occasional story of an actual goalie being asked to dress in a game for an emergency reason.
But this is a great story [found HERE]. Not just because this young man, Connor Crisp, did an admirable job when his team needed him. But also because of the apparent reactions of the other teams fans and the organization. The long story short is: Erie Otters went into the game with their backup goalie as their starting goalie was injured in a previous game. Connor Crisp was put on the roster as the backup goalie, and under two minutes into the game, his services were needed despite two things: he is a forward, and he has not played all season due to a shoulder injury. Despite giving up 13 goals, he managed to make 32 saves as well. Quite admirable for someone who has not played goalie since the age of 5. Get after it, Connor!
