A Man on a Mission, Joe Battista
March 2, 2012
Joe Battista is synonymous with Penn State Ice Hockey. He has been the driving force of the program for over 20 years. Without his efforts the program would not have its legacy and tradition, and certainly would not be making the transition from ACHA Division I competition to NCAA Division I; competing in the new Big 10 Conference in 2013-2014.
Joe recently wrote an article HERE after the Penn State Icers competed for the last time in the ACHA, chronicling the long trying ascent of Penn State Hockey. For those who haven’t had the privilege of meeting Joe, it’s a great presentation of his fiery, passionate, goal-oirented personality. He openly admits that many people along the way would simply dismiss him as a “PITA” [pain in the a**], but those who know him better realize that he’s a man on a mission with a heart bigger than the university he represents.
His list of accomplishments within the hockey world, especially Penn State hockey, is almost as long as the list of former players who endear him as a surrogate father. I’m very privileged and proud to say I had the opportunity to play for him and call him coach, mentor, and lifelong friend. Joe, thank you for all you’ve done for our sport & university!
